I don't think there is anything to allow or disallow here. IMO Daisy should
not make too many assumptions or requirements on how or where a document
exists before it is uploaded to it.
It is just so that (for our usecase at least) people often refer to existing
msoffice documents when writing documentation or manuals in Daisy. These
documents are sourced from external document management systems or
well-known protected locations on a network drive. The documents are
accessible (both r/o and r/w) by many other people that don't even know (or
care) about the existence of Daisy. The original master document location
thus cannot be changed. The fact that the document attachment might get
outdated because of updates to the original outside of Daisy is fully OK,
and sometimes even desirable.

Again, this is perfectly fine when you assume that the master copy of the
document attachment is always stored in Daisy. But that's a big assumption
to make IMHO.
