I think it would be better to use a version control repository model
instead of allowing the master copy to be stored outside of Daisy.
Assuming multiple people can edit the Daisy document, storing the master
outside of Daisy may not be desirable.

Using the version control model with Daisy acting as the repository, the
desktop integration would download the document to the desktop from
Daisy to a defined working location with metadata about the daisy
document/part and version downloaded.  After edit on the desktop, the
document would be uploaded back to Daisy.  Prior to uploading, the
version can be checked and an alert raised if the document has changed
on Daisy since you retrieved your copy.
