Thinking about a new "minor/major change type" (not tested), it might be 
usefull to introduce an option in the user preferences for the user's 
default type of change (eg. MediaWiki has this user preference; minor is 
my default).

Proofreader will never do major changes, and correcting typos is quite 
often and usualy done by the way while reading. With minor user default 
one will not put documents out of sync unintentionally.
