Karel Vervaeke commented on DSY-637:
------------------------------------
I know facebook has nice dialogs, but as far as I know there are no dialogs preventing the user from leaving the page. There simply is no standard way of doing that using the default confirm()- style dialog box.
If you can give a link to a counter-example I would be glad to give it a try.
The fact that you can't change the leaving-the-page dialog type is really a security feature: otherwise malicious scripts could just discard the close event or present dialogs even without 'ok' buttons, preventing the user from closing his browser.
I agree that it would be nice to be able to change the default value of the confirm()-style dialog in some situations, but AFAICT there is no way to do this.
Google for 'onbeforeunload' to find out more about the topic.

> When one is editing a document and wants to close the window or go back in the browser history, one is shown a dialog window asking "Are you sure you want to navigate to another page?" and given two options: Yes (the default) and Cancel.
> Cancel should be the default action, as pushing the Yes button inadvertently can have bad consequences. I was just creating a page, then as I was typing I moved the focus away from the editing window (probably touched the touchpad) and kept typing. One of the keys I pressed made the dialog show up, and before I realised what I was doing I typed a space, and so I lost 30 minutes of my work. I wouldn't want that to happen to other people.
> Given that part of the text of the dialog is in Portuguese, which is my default browser language, I would think that the dialog feature is not purely a Daisy implement, so it may be beyond your powers to change this, but it might be useful to do so.
