Marc Portier commented on DSY-41:
---------------------------------

Getting deeper into the "configurable formatting"
(and further away from the original topic)

About making the formatting for dates and datetimes (as well as for numbers (',' , '.' and leading zeros?) configurable (together with the TZ to apply)
I'm thinking that it should be possible to do this per site, per locale (the user has selected) and not just for the complete wiki.

Unsure if these should be able to fallback to (or be overriden by) custom preferences tied to the user?

And even a step further: looking at the current cookie-locale:
- should that be extended to cather for this new stuff as well, (so things or not as much tied to the user, but to the user on that machine)
- or rather be replaced by server-side kept user-attributes
- or both with yet another level of fallback/override rules...

On an API level I presume the query-manager should not only to get the locale in which to format the results, but also the (various per datatype) formatting patterns to apply.

Finally, a formatDate() function in the query sounds like another meaningful addition in this respect.

> Time stamps are currently based on the server system time. It would be nice to be able to shift that independent of the server configuration - i.e. system time is EST but Daisy time stamps are in CEST or GMT+1.
