which means this group kinda has chosen you already, just like your
above paragraph is preferring us?

Last year we got during project-voting the indication that we were
likely to get 3 projects assigned, we got all 3 effectively.

This year shows the same indication, and we have no reason (apart maybe
not finding enough valid candidates/projects) to believe the outcome
will be different.

Well, the difference is that google needs to make things effective. But
that is the only difference, and since you're the only one with a mentor
assigned already...

(BTW: I would urge the other candidates to take the completeness of your
application as an example)

Towards what you should do: I'ld say "very little"

Google will only assign you to one project, and that will be the one
that has a mentor assigned, the warning to the maemo mentors that we
already have a mentor assigned really just should warn them that they
need to resolve with us which project should effectively get you.

Typically such resolution should start with asking which project you
prefer. As this makes things really clear in this case I would just let
them know your preference like you did here.

It's then up to their mentors to not assign anyone, and give other
projects a better evaluation.

There is to my knowledge no other way 'to give away your spot'

bottom line:

as far as I'm concerned you made a clear choice here by expressing your
preference, just give the maemo peeps the same clear message

furthermore you can drop your worries about not being selected, Daisy is
very likely to get 3 projects assigned, from those 3 one is practically
 already allocated for you
