In general it would be possible to create such a variant, of course. However I'm somehow reluctant to do so:
If we stick to the solution of putting the invoking wrapper script in the bin directory of the wiki(data) directory, we have to change the installation routines anyhow. So it's not like that we could simply remove the part of the patch concerning the installation routines, contrary it would mean that I have to work on and with the old version again which is (like you experienced by yourself) not really easy to comprehend. (That was actuallay the reason why I started to refactor). I think that my refactoring cleaned up the code quite a bit, however, it was simply a matter of rearranging things, nothing new was actually needed. So I would appreciate if the patch could applied 'as is'.
