No data is lost during the upgrade (of course).

You can directly upgrade from 1.3 to 2.0 (meaning you only need to
download the 2.0 release), though you have to follow the upgrade
instructions for each major in-between release. So in your case that is:
 * 1.3 -> 1.4
 * 1.4 -> 1.5
 * 1.5 -> 2.0

There can be parts of the upgrade instructions that overlap or cancel
each other out, but in case of doubt I suggest to follow all
instructions. Sometimes the upgrade instructions also contains steps to
perform once the sytem is running again, which you'll only be able to do
at the very end.

Alternatively, you might feel more comfortable doing all the upgrades
individually, e.g. first upgrade to 1.4 and check it works, then upgrade
to 1.5 and check it works, etc.

If you have custom skins, I would disable them before upgrading (= make
sure in each siteconf.xml the skin is set to "default")

Also don't forget to make backups at the start: of the SQL database, the
repository data directory, and (in case of 1.3 where there's no wikidata
dir yet) the whole DAISY_HOME/daisywiki directory
