For this patch, I will take care of fixing it before committing, but I just want to avoid having to do that each time.

I would suggest either doing all the editing on unix and moving files only to windows for testing, or using a windows checkout for these files. You can of course convert between windows and unix line endings when moving over the files, or configure your editor, etc, but that's easy to forget and takes effort to do, so I'd recommend to follow a workflow which alltogether avoids the problem. Anyhow, it's not important how you do it, as long as the end result is ok.
