Use an editor like jEdit or TextPad where you can specify tab/space replacement and line endings.

In jEdit, you can add a line like this at the beginning or the end of the file to make the editor use certain settings when you open the file:

// :indentSize=4:noTabs=true:mode=java:

Or use the BufferLocal plugin.
