I'm guessing, but probably other people as well are developing atop of
2.0-dev?

In fact the best guarantee for a timely new release is in fact a load of
people working day-by-day with the bleeding edge. It is in every case
the kind of development environment we impose upon ourselves to help
that new release come true.

The other extra bonus is that it facilitates translating new specific
customer requests into more widely useable new features. (rather then
needing to back-port or duplicate those over releases)

Of course this comes at the cost of needing to get more intimate with
the code-base, but that as well has high probability of turning
beneficial to any development on top of Daisy one is doing.

All of the above is 'open source project common knowledge'; and the
obvious Outerthoughtian "parental guidance" over the project in no way
changes that.

More OSS talk: "We get there when we get there."
But yeah, there is vague feeling that given current workload and
progress we'll get there somewhere Q1 2007.

This is somewhat backed by history: we've roughly seen 2 releases a year
(not counting 'dot' releases)

If not the final one, then at least some milestone releases should have
surfaced by then (you can check the typical quality, and after-work of
the previous ones)

I'ld say it's at 42 :-)

Seriously I'ld easily advise starting to use it here and now (even if
there are some known regressions versus 1.5.x) in a project where

1/ one can benefit from the new features/changes
   (http://cocoondev.org/daisydocs-2_0/13/324.html)
2/ the 'going live' is foreseen around the mentioned Q1-2007.

You'll do yourself a treat by keeping an eye on the 2.0 docs, this
mailing list and the issues-list of course.

best regards,
