I had a quick look into this.  I saw that lucene has a lock file in 
/tmp.  I took a guess and removed the file and thus the lock.  Lucene 
documentation [1] stated this as a solution.  Should this happen more 
frequently then there is a way to have lucene clean up the locks 
automatically.
